Why Power to the Web?

A story of a mission and a domain

My real last name is Power. I got it through my first marriage and held onto it after our divorce, sensing its future marketing value.

Just kidding. I’m not that calculating. It was more that by that point, I’d been Power for a dozen years or so, for most of my college and professional life. I’d built my reputation on it.

I have owned the domain valeriepower.com for a very long time, almost as long as I’ve been building websites.

However, after writing three equestrian suspense novels, I have established that site now as my author website, and have it printed in the back of my books.

So when I wanted to set up a site for my web design business, I had to think twice.

The great thing about Power is that it’s memorable. But, the bad thing is that it’s also a word, and so just about every simple and memorable combination of Power Web Design suited domain names is already taken.

So I started to think creatively. I wanted to somehow tie it to my mission, which is empowering the little guy.

Power to the People is a slogan I connect with.

It started getting used in the sixties, with students protesting the war, Black Panthers and even a John Lennon song in 1971.

And because the internet is essentially democratic, I feel that it brings power to the people, who in turn can bring their power to the web.

Get in touch with me, I’d love to help you do the same.
